HOMERunning a small charity can be very demanding and stressful. Most small charities are subject to the same regulations as large ones and are required to comply with charity law and company law (if they are incorporated organisations) in exactly the same way as the large multi-million pound charities. In a large organisation, staff teams generally include specialists such as head of finance, company secretary, head of fundraising and communications, head of HR, head of development, IT specialist, office manager, PR & Marketing manager, etc. In a small charity all of that responsibility falls on the shoulders of the chief executive and possibly one or two others, so senior staff need to have a wider knowledge base covering a comprehensive range of topics. The chief executive is also responsible for strategic planning, business planning, budgeting, financial reporting, setting out the income and marketing strategies etc, etc. whilst the trustees are expected, under the guidance of the chief executive, to be able to set the aims, objectives and mission of the charity ……..and provide annual reports and accounts in compliance with charity and company law. All of this in addition to the day to day running of the organisation. Small Charity Support exists to help trustees and staff of smaller charities to establish clear aims, objectives and mission; plan strategically, develop concise, straightforward business plans and to advise about raising the funds necessary to enable their services, whatever they may be, to develop and run effectively. Practical help with trust fundraising can also be given. Alastair Macdougall has a wealth of experience in the voluntary sector having worked at regional and director level in large organisations and as chief executive of a smaller charity. He has extensive knowledge of strategic planning, business planning, reporting, public speaking and presenting, training, fundraising and media work. His straightforward, jargon free approach coupled with his lively sense of humour make training and team building sessions not only informative and illuminating but enjoyable at the same time. No charity is too small to benefit from Small Charity Support . If you think we can help you, do please contact us. |
